Welcome to the Topps 300 (and then some...) Blog!

Below are scans of the best five (in my opinion) cards from each year from the last 60 years of Topps Baseball Cards. I picked the 300 based on a few qualifiers, including: Key Rookie, Unique Photo, Action Shot, Card caused a buzz in the Hobby, Noteworthy Errors, Player had an impact on the game that particular year.

Now I know I left a whole bunch of worthy cards off the blog (and I have a feeling that I know what they are). What I ask is that you the readers that if you feel that a card not included in each post should be to add it to the comments. The idea is that eventually, I will create a ballot including my picks, as well as up to five picks from the commenters, will be put to a vote for the Hobby Blogging (and Internet) community to determine the best cards from each year of all time.

It is still a work in progress. But for now, please view each of the posts, and let me know what you think. And definitely share this with the populace. The more input this blog gets, the better the results are going to be in the end.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

JayBee Anama

Where are the Randy Johnson and Gary Sheffield rookies? Probably the most iconic cards from that set.

And I don't think the Oliva's the best of 89. Then again, if you think the Turn Back the Clock subset really defined the set, that's fine by me. It's your choice.

I agree with Jordan that Randy Johnson should be there, and maybe Gregg Jeffries. Remember how huge his name was back then?

No TBTC card should be here. They were doing TBTC cards back in the '70s.

You have to include the Jefferies. That was THE card to have back in '89. I remember buying Mets team sets with my Dad in Kmart just for the Jefferies card (worth $3 then) and I hate the Mets!

Have to agree with Night Owl. No TBTC cards here. Not because of the concept or originality, but because I have 20 of each one in my trade box.

I believe it's included because it depicts a card that didn't exist in Topps 1984 set. Tony Oliva had a "rookie stars" card with another player, but not his own card. Topps did use the same photo, though. I'd pull the TBC, though.

I'd include the Jeffries and the Randy Johnson I guess I'd pull the Gibson, though I do so with a cringe. I like the Schmidt as his last card.

The All-Star subset in '89 was fantastic, especially the AL with the red. You've got to include an AS card for at least one of the 1980's Topps set.

I like '88 and '89 the best.
